Phase 1 – Single Service Reopening

Service Times – Beginning May 31, we will be having one worship service at 10:30am. We will also continue our online broadcast on the church Facebook page during the 10:30am service.

Who can be here?  We are fully open and will welcome all who desire to be here but will still strongly encourage those who are high risk to continue to join us online. While we will not restrict anyone, we will reserve the right to refuse entrance to any individual who has been in contact with an infected person or who is exhibiting the following symptoms that have been associated with COVID-19:

·       Fever;

·       Cough;

·       Shortness of breath;

·       Chills;

·       Repeated shaking;

·       Muscle pain;

·       Headache;

·       Sore throat; or

·       New loss of taste or smell or other neurological issue.

Worship Team – During the music portion, the worship team will be adequately distanced

Seating – We will be utilizing a different seating arrangement to help with distancing and have removed all but 60 chairs on the main floor. Those attending will be required to sit only with those within their household. We will also require social distancing of six feet between families.

Offering/Communion – We will continue to offer online giving as well as accept checks by mail. Those who wish to leave checks when they come are welcome to do so. We will not be taking an offering or passing any plates. In the event we have Communion, we are looking into pre-packaged elements that will be available on a table upon entering.

Nursery – There will be limited nursery/childcare during this phase. We understand the need for nursery and will try to divide nursery times between the two services to limit numbers. Nursery care must be provided by a parent/guardian who will be responsible to wipe down toys and anything used immediately following each service. To make this easier, we will be temporarily downsizing the number of toys available in the nursery. The church will provide materials to wipe down the toys.

Restrooms – Restrooms will be available but discouraged from use. In the event restrooms are used, they will need to be thoroughly wiped down after each service.

Cleaning – Following each service, worship team members will wipe down the music stands, along with the piano and keyboard. Team members with an instrument they personally own will be encouraged but not required to wipe down their instruments. The platform will be Swiffer mopped as well.

Greeting – We will ask that those in attendance not shake hands for the time being. If you do shake hands, please use hand sanitizer before leaving the building. We will try to provide a hand sanitizing station here at the church. Because we will be practicing social distancing measures, masks will not be required. You may wear one if you would like.

Children’s Church – During this phase, we will not be offering junior church. Instead we encourage children to sit and worship with their parents.

Parking – Considering parking at big box retailers does not have restrictions and considering we have fairly faint striping in the parking lot, we will not be having parking restrictions.

Phase 2 – Sunday School Resumes, with restrictions

Service Times – We will be returning to a single Sunday school and single worship service; however, we will be adjusting start times to line up with what we have adjusted to during this time. Sunday school will now be from 9:30am to 10:15am; the morning service will begin at 10:30am. We will also continue our online broadcast on the church Facebook page during the 10:30am service.

During the 9:00am time slot, children will be able to attend Sunday school; however, we may have to divide the classes differently depending on the availability of teachers. During the 10:30am time slot, children will be able to attend junior church. We will continue to utilize a rotational schedule to allow teachers to have opportunities to attend at least one service.

NEW THIS PHASE – Sunday school teachers and junior church workers will be responsible to see that their classrooms are properly wiped down. In addition, teachers and workers must ensure that children have used hand sanitizer before gathering back with the rest of the congregation. This will help mitigate risk of asymptomatic transfer.

FAQs

-       I thought masks were required under the governors reopening stages. Will the church provide masks for those who show up? At this time, we will not be providing masks. Current orders state that masks are only required when social distancing is not possible. Since we will be taking specific distancing measures, masks will not be required. Nobody will be prohibited from using a mask should they desire to.

-       Why are we reopening in two phases when the president has given us the green light to open? We want to be able to start having our Sunday classes again both for adults and children. However, before we try to tackle that all at once, we want to make sure we have the basics down and that everyone understands how we need to operate during this time.

-       Are you concerned that we are opening without following the governor’s guidelines? Simply put, no. We want to be respectful of the rules we’ve been given regarding meeting and we do not want to harm our testimony. We will do our best to fulfill the spirit of the law. Pastor VanDyne has reached out to local officials regarding how strictly this will be enforced, and they seem to agree with the spirit of the law more than the letter of the law.

-        What if I still don’t feel safe enough to come to church? That’s totally fine. We understand that people will want to begin entering society at different paces. We also understand these are unique times and don’t want anyone to feel pressured to do something they don’t deem safe. Because of this, we will continue providing the live broadcast of the service on the church Facebook page, even after this has all ended.

-       Some churches are opening and going back to business as usual. Have you considered fully reopening based on a sense of government overreach or under the protection of the first amendment? This is something we have discussed as a leadership team. At this time, we feel the best thing for the safety of our church people and even more importantly our testimony for Christ in and around the community, is to operate within the guidelines laid out above, at least for a time, regardless of our personal feelings. Our ultimate goal is to glorify God in how we react to authority he ordained during this time. We are very happy to be able to reopen much earlier than we originally anticipated.

-       What about Awana, Community Group, and midweek prayer meetings? At this time, Community Group and midweek prayer meetings will continue to meet via Zoom. The majority of those who attend the Wednesday morning prayer meeting are our seniors, many of whom we are still encouraging to stay home. At some point, we will assess how we want to move forward and will put together a plan at that time. We are looking at trying to finish our Awana program this summer. Pastor Fuller is putting together a plan and working with parents to accomplish this. We will provide additional details as we have them available, but our goal is to give our Awana kids an opportunity to finish their year in their books as well as be rewarded for their hard work.

-       When will gymnasium activities begin again? Our renting out of the facility will be on hold until a full reopen, so gymnasium use will be limited prior to that time and will be evaluated on a case-by-case and needs based assessment.

-       What if I have other questions? We welcome any questions we can answer for you. Please fill out a virtual Connect Card on our website and we will get back with you as quickly as we can.
